ABOUT
Ashleigh Watson is an independent retro soul singer/songwriter based in Melbourne Australia.
Since birth, Ashleigh has known that she was meant to be a singer and performer. Never a doubt in her mind, she found it strange that other kids at school didn't know what they wanted to do 'when they grew up'. So Ashleigh took it upon herself to begin her performance career every Monday morning at Show And Tell, performing a selection of songs for her teacher and fellow students.
Having always loved older artists than herself such as, Frank Sinatra and Elvis but unable to put a name to her preference in genre, she found her passion for Motown and Soul music when she joined world-renowned girl band 'Sweethearts' at just 14 years of age. As one of the youngest members to ever join the band at the time, she performed with them for a longer period than most, not leaving the band until she was 22 years of age due to her close relationship with director Ross Lipson and the band's continued need for her expertise. During her time in the band Ashleigh travelled twice to Europe, performing at the prestigious Porretta Soul Festival Italy and Montreux Jazz Festival Switzerland. In 2014 she had the pleasure of giving an impromptu performance of her signature song, 'Baby I Need Your Loving' to The Four Tops in their dressing room during the Melbourne leg of their tour! Thereafter, Ashleigh became a recurring mentor and choreographer for the backing, and lead vocal sections of the band.
Since leaving the Sweethearts, Ashleigh has been an integral member of several diverse music acts, some of which span over a decade. These include All Star, Bamboozle, The New Originals, Grand Soul Audio, Cash Up Front (No. 1 on the Tasmania Country Music Charts), The Spurs, The Bluetone Assembly, and various acoustic duos. Over the past few years she has also become a recurring session vocalist on The Voice Australia, X-Factor and the upcoming album for musical act, 'Owl Eyes'.
Ashleigh has had great success with several of her original songs signing to music libraries across the globe. Most recently her first single 'Little Love' scored a placement on Episode One, Season Two, of hit ABC TV show 'Harrow'.
Ashleigh is currently working on the release of three new tracks with musician, songwriter and producer, Michael Cristiano. These are due for release in late 2024.
